We did it – Litigant defies long absence to win the Ebor!

LitigantExcitement, shock, disbelief and pride – just a smattering of feelings that we have all experienced here at Tuite Racing over the past 24 hours, since our Litigant won the Betfred Ebor at York.

This race has been the aim since late spring, when we finally felt like we were getting somewhere with Tony Byrne’s fragile, but incredibly talented horse. Litigant came to us as a 6 year-old at the tail end of last year carrying with him a lightweight, but impressive book of form. A winner of 5 races and over £150,000 prize-money, we obviously welcomed him with open arms and we quickly realised we had something special on our hands, if only we could get him right.

There have been times earlier in the year when we’ve felt he was close to being ready then again another problem would strike, his legs would flare up, he’d pull out lame and we’d scratch our heads and go right back to square one. That piece of work with George Baker in May really was the turning point, from then all we were able to think about was the Ebor, it was an obsession, an obsession which made any little hiccups in his training routine ten times more frustrating than they were before.

Yesterday is a blur, we are still watching the replay over and over again – each time he looks like he is travelling better and winning easier! It’s just wonderful to watch and so obvious to see how he relished being back at the races.

It’s been incredibly tough, but we are elated that we managed to pull off our grand plan. Seeing him trot up sound with ears pricked this morning really was the icing on top of a very sweet cake!

As for what’s next – we have a few options to consider. There is the Prix Du Cadran at Longchamp on Arc day then obviously we have Champions Day back on home turf a couple of weeks after that. There’s also the option of supplementing him for the Irish St. Leger. But at the moment we are still getting our heads around the fact that we’ve landed the Ebor, so we’ll enjoy that for a few days then have a think about where to go next.

Before we sign off, a big THANK YOU to all the well wishers – we have been overwhelmed by all of the kind messages from the racing community and beyond. Also massive thanks to every single person who has been involved in getting this horse ready, there are too many to name but special thanks go to:
All of the staff at Tuite Racing, headed by Chris Martin – Nora, Sean, Char, Singh, Tammy and Beany.
George Baker
Oisin Murphy
and last but certainly not least, Tony Byrne – for keeping the faith!
