Preparing in earnest for the season ahead

Litigant wins the Ebor after a long lay-off

Our success with Litigant (pictured) during 2015 has been well documented in the racing press, with his wins in both the Ebor and the November Handicap providing such a highlight to a wonderful first season at Felstead Court Stables in Lambourn. However, we did achieve another 16 winners on top of those two high-profile victories.

Some standout performances of 2015 were those of Field of Vision, whom you can read more about below; Cincuenta Pasos (winner of three races during 2015, including a Class 4 Handicap at Newmarket); Fast Dancer (winner of two races during 2015, including a Class 4 Handicap at Chester, plus further placed efforts at Chester and Wolverhampton) and Just Emma (winner of her Maiden at Brighton before being placed in the Listed Woodcote Stakes at Epsom on Derby day). To add to these sterling efforts, Bohemian Rhapsody became our first ever runner, and winner, over hurdles.

Since the turn of the New Year we have had several runners on the all-weather, 13 to be precise, with one winner and another eight finishing in the first four. Pink Martini (pictured), a three year-old Tagula filly owned by the Pulse.Aero Partnership, provided our first win of 2016 when scooting four lengths clear of her rivals in a Maiden at Lingfield. Congratulations go to all of her connections.

As well as continuing to run horses in suitable races on the all-weather, preparations are being made in earnest for the impending Flat turf season. We have been busy educating a draft of fresh-faced two-year-olds for the start of their careers as racehorses (see this short video online), whilst also welcoming back some of our more seasoned campaigners as they return from their winter breaks. In addition to the influx of horses arriving at the yard, another new and exciting development at Felstead Court is the recent completion of eight loose boxes. The boxes have been erected to cater for the increase in numbers, and horses were queuing up to be the first in almost as soon as the last screw was being tightened! With enough stabling for up to 35 horses we are now busier than ever, but we are looking forward with great anticipation to all the excitement that 2016 has to offer. Topping 2015 will be no easy feat, but you bet we are going to try.
