A tremendous 2016 fuels the 2017 fire

Last year marked our most successful year to date, clocking up a notable 22 on-course victories which included our highest-rated success so far with the two-year-old, Olivia Hoare-owned Madam Dancealot.

The filly by Sir Prancealot first impressed us when finishing close second to soon-to-be super filly Mehmas at Chester on her first start. From there she went to the Goffs London Sale with an entry for the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, where she was snapped up by Mrs Olivia Hoare. American raider Lady Aurelia demolished the Royal Ascot field, but we were not deterred and went on to win a Maiden at Newbury the following month.

Despite a couple of defeats Madam Dancealot continued to improve and impress us in her homework. So much so that she was entered for the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury in September. She duly won by a comfortable 1 1/4 lengths (pictured), confirming her status as the top-class filly we always knew she was. We were all absolutely delighted to have achieved that first Group success, and we celebrated long into the night!

Shortly after winning at Salisbury Madam Dancealot was sold to the USA to run in the Breeders’ Cup.

As well as Madam Dancealot’s late summer highlight, we were delighted to celebrate the performances of several other stablemates, including Acertwo who managed to win no less than three races in quick succession on the artificial surface at Chelmsford City. Quite a feat for any horse in training, especially a two-year-old.

Followers of the yard were also treated to a real return to form for stable favourite Zipedeedodah, firstly at Lingfield in September before bringing home two races back-to-back at Wolverhampton in November. September was a particularly great month for Zippy’s part-owner Mark Wellbelove who had his first winner in his brand new colours when Cincuenta Pasos took the spoils at Chepstow.

Of course, our season is always tip-top when we manage to notch up successes for our most longstanding owners and the year would not have been complete without wins in the colours of Ian & Kate Prince (For Ayman), Alan & Christine Bright (Thane Of Cawdor) and Tony Byrne and the Spin Top Partnership (Spin Top).

Although we’ve kept some of the horses ticking over on the all-weather, winter is really a great chance to give the yard a tidy up in readiness for the New Year. We’ve been busy jet-washing and painting every surface we can get our hands on. We’ve also installed new grills in between the stables to increase interaction between the horses when they are not out at exercise or in the paddocks.

Horses began arriving back at the yard earlier this month, returning from spells away at grass for the winter. As well as our seasoned campaigners we were pleased to welcome a number of new equine faces over the stable doors including Who Told Jo Jo, Machine Learner, Lady Morel and Grecian Divine as well as several fresh-faced two-year-olds.

We are looking forward to all that this year will bring for us and hope that you will enjoy following our progress as we go. For the most up-to-the minute news please make sure to follow our Facebook page. We look forward to bringing you more news soon!
